Filming on new surf drama
Barons is set to begin in NSW for ABC later this year.
Centering around the hedonistic world of surfing, the cutthroat culture of big business and the emotional rollercoaster of relationships, the eight-part drama features a group of brave but crazy, 20-something friends, who all have one thing in common – a love of the ocean and surfing.
Produced by 2Jons, Micanical Media and Fremantle,
Barons is created by Michael Lawrence (
Bra Boys, Fighting Fear) and John Molloy (
The Gloaming, Molly) and writer Liz Doran (
Molly, Please Like Me) with producer Justin Davies (
Harrow, Cleverman), Anna Torv (
Stateless, Wentworth), Helana Sawires (
Stateless,
Defending Jacob, Lambs of God) and Noni Hazlehurst (
A Place to Call Home, The End).
They are joined by newcomers Ameshol Ajang, Stacy Clausen and Nyawuda Chuol.
Sally Riley, ABC Head of Drama, Entertainment and Indigenous, said, “The ABC is honoured to be able to share some of the very real and personal experiences of individuals and communities touched by the 2019 bushfires. This series will illuminate their resilience, determination and the community spirit that endures. We are proud to celebrate the start of production which champions this compelling and reflective storytelling with a stellar cast and a phenomenal creative team.”
