COVID-19 vaccination clinic to open in Temple Tuesday

Curative, which has partnered with Bell County to give COVID-19 vaccinations, is opening a clinic in Temple starting Tuesday. The new clinic is set to be located in Temple at Vista Community Church, 7051 Stonehollow Drive, and will be open from Tuesday through Thursday. Similar to the Curative clinic in Killeen opened last week, at Leo Buckley Stadium 500 N. 38th St., the Temple location will offer 1,500 vaccination appointments each week. The clinic’s operating hours are from 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Wednesday appointments ranging from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. County Judge David Blackburn said the county is currently seeing many appointments open up and the county and Curative are working together to make sure whoever wants the vaccine can get it.

Bell vaccinations to expand with walk-in clinics; county reports another COVID-19 death

Starting next week, Curative will host the county’s first walk-in clinic for COVID-19 vaccinations. Bell County officials announced Thursday that Curative, a county partner for the vaccines, will offer walk-in appointments in Killeen at Leo Buckley Stadium, 500 N. 38th St. In addition to the new walk-in clinic, Curative is set to open a second vaccination location in Temple offering 1,500 appointments a week. The second Curative site will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays at Vista Community Church in Temple, 7051 Stonehollow Drive. While Curative opens a new site, Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights announced that it will not make any additional appointments after April 30.

Temple ISD, other Bell districts plan in-person graduation ceremonies

School districts in Bell County are making plans for in-person graduation ceremonies — festivities that largely span the Bell County Expo Center, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and other venues. Temple Independent School District spokesman Christian Hernandez told the Telegram that Temple High seniors will don their cap and gowns on May 12 at the Bell County Expo Center, 301 W. Loop 121 in Belton. The in-person graduation is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. “Each graduate will receive six tickets to distribute to friends or family, and all are required to wear masks,” Hernandez said. Killeen ISD Killeen ISD has five senior bodies graduating in late May: Early College High, 2 p.m. on May 27; Killeen High, 6 p.m. on May 27; C.E. Ellison High, 9 a.m. on May 28; Harker Heights High, 2 p.m. on May 28; and Robert M. Shoemaker High, 9 a.m. on May 29.

Little change in school COVID-19 numbers

Bell County announced Thursday that it would not be updating its COVID-19 dashboard on Fridays moving forward. Temple Independent School District showed only one case on its seven-day dashboard, at Lamar Middle School. Belton ISD remained the same, reporting 10 active cases in the district. There was one case at Belton Early Childhood School, one at Chisholm Trail Elementary, one at Miller Heights Elementary, two at Belton Middle School, three at South Belton Middle School, one at Belton High School and one at Lake Belton Middle School. Killeen ISD continued to see an increase in cases Friday according to its seven day dashboard. The district now has 41 cases at its campuses, with 27 students and 14 staff members having the virus. The district listed 30 cases on Thursday.

Harker Heights man killed in Salado crash

SALADO — A Harker Heights man was killed Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash near Salado High School, authorities said. Michael Scott Schmidt, 63, died from his injuries at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko said. The incident occurred at about 7:34 a.m. at the intersection FM 2484 and Lark Trail, about a block east of Salado High. Schmidt was driving a 2016 BMW X3 sedan east on FM 2484 when he failed to control speed and collided with the rear of 2015 Western Star tractor-trailer that had stopped on the road to turn onto Lark Trail, Washko said.
