A vicar general in the Archdiocese of Paris has shocked Catholics in the French capital by abruptly announcing his resignation from the key post at the beginning of Holy Week.
Father Benoist de Sinety, who had been in the post since 2016, stepped down on March 30 and announced that he was taking up a parish assignment in the Diocese of Lille, France s northern-most diocese.
