wjz from arlington, virginia. federal investigators say a pakistani-born man, helped patch a plot to bomb subway stations near the u.s. capital. agents arrested 38-year-old farouq ahmed today. police believe he was helping to plan attacks on d.c. substations. a senior law enforcement official says the month-long investigation was an fbi sting. the white house says the public was never in danger because agents were on top of the case from the beginning. a nine-page criminal indictment, unsealed ahead of ahmed s arraignment today, detailed his trips to busy stops. reporter: the indictment concedes that he conducted surveys here at this station. a few days later, he handed off the image to someone he believed was affiliated with al qaeda, in a virginia hotel room. he delivered subway diagrams and made suggestions about where explosives should be placed to kill the most people possible. metro riders say learning about the plot makes them nervous. but it s part of the world
