100% our pentagon shouldn t be broadcasting an arbitrary date for withdrawal. our message should be we ll do what we need to do to get our people out of there. however long it takes and however hard it is we aren t going to leave anybody behind. if the taliban messes with us we ll meet it with devastating consequences. instead the biden administration just keeps bungling this withdrawal. this is an epic foreign policy catastrophe. the president s speech yesterday was a disgrace. blaming the afghan people, blaming his predecessor. we ve already had a saigon moment. now we have a dunkirk moment. can we get our people out and can we muster energy to save our people? that s on open question given the incompetence we ve seen from the white house so far. harris: look, i ve had former generals, retired, tell me recently it feels like we ll have to surge our way in there.

we have bungled this withdrawal, been a catastrophe. no going back. we ve had this saigon moment. we need to do everything possible to save as many lives as possible. having had the saigon moment we need the dunkirk moment. get everybody out, work with regional allies to provide asylum on a temporary basis if we can t do this all ourselves and we also need the secretary of defense, the chairman of the joint chiefs to address the nation as well. right now i think the american people have significant concerns about the images they re seeing out of afghanistan. there needs to be more aggressive leadership coming out of the white house, out of the pentagon. i m glad they provided information at the briefing. as a member of the armed services committee the final thing for congress to reconvene. there is a role for to us play. we re all getting questions from our constituents, many of whom have friends that are trapped in afghanistan, and in some cases we don t know who to put them in touch
biden administration maintained that taliban would not take over. i want to play a quick sound bite from jake sullivan earlier. watch this. we as a national security team take responsibility for every decision, good decision, every decision that doesn t produce perfect outcomes. what do we know about that disconnect in the messaging there? what factored into the administration s decision making here? a couple days ago we heard from secretary of state tony blinken saying this is not a friday to monday situation. we re not going to see a collapse like that. president biden repeatedly saying that this is not going to be a saigon moment. you won t see an evacuation from the roof top of the american embassy there. this is what has played out. and so now there is a disconnect between what they were saying to the public and what was happening behind the scenes. absolutely. those are the questions that we and all of the other reporters are continuously asking this
