SAGINAW, MI Several Saginaw police officers have filed a lawsuit against the city they work in and their own union, alleging a contract change is forcing them to work years longer before they can retire with full health care coverage.
Attorney Victor J. Mastromarco Jr. on Feb. 9 filed the lawsuit in Saginaw County Circuit Court on behalf of current officers Bradley Holp, 37; Roger Pate, 45; Matthew Carpus, 35; and Steven Lautner, 38; and former officer Richard Thompson, 48. The city of Saginaw and the Police Officers Association of Michigan, or POAM, are named as defendants.

SAGINAW, MI Prosecutors have extended a plea offer to a man they say tried robbing a woman outside a Saginaw County Buffalo Wild Wings, but failed because she fought him off.
Justin V. Sabin, 39, on Thursday, March 11, waived his right to a preliminary examination before Saginaw County District Judge A.T. Frank.
Frank bound Sabin’s case over to Saginaw County Circuit Court, where the defendant’s options are to face a trial or accept a plea deal.
Saginaw County Assistant Prosecutor Blair N. Stevenson said he has made Sabin the offer that if he pleads guilty as charged, he’ll recommend Sabin receive a sentence at the bottom of the advisory guidelines, which is anticipated to be at least 42 months.

SAGINAW, MI A Saginaw man accused of crashing a truck into a house, killing a woman as she slept in her living room, is a step closer to facing a jury.
Austin M. Losee, 22, on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 2, appeared via Zoom before Saginaw County District Judge Terry L. Clark. Defense attorney James F. Piazza said Losee wished to waive his right to a preliminary examination, during which prosecutors would have to provide probable cause that crimes were committed and that Losee perpetrated them.
