ONE Championship
Shinya Aoki has always been one of the most ferocious grapplers in the history of mixed martial arts and he proved that yet again at ONE on TNT 4.
The veteran lightweight needed just a single takedown against fellow former ONE champion Eduard Folayang to advance his position and then set up a fight ending armbar before the first round was finished. The end came at just 4:20 in the opening round as Aoki notches his fourth win in a row overall since losing the lightweight title to Christian Lee in 2019.
Afterwards, Aoki paid tribute to Folayang after clashing three times in their careers while also turning his attention to a couple of new potential opponents.

A right hand at the bell from his opponent, Kirill Grishenko, led to Reug Reug being unable to continue. The controversial Aoki has long since been viewed as one of the most unpredictable men in mixed martial arts, whether that be with ONE Championship or elsewhere.
Last night, he fought against Eduard Folayang in an enticing trilogy bout that ended with Aoki winning via submission – just as he did two years ago in their Tokyo rematch.
After the fight he decided to call out Northcutt, which caused a few words to be exchanged on social media.

Dropping a controversial disqualification loss to Iuri Lapicus at ONE on TNT 1 at the beginning of the month, former UFC and Bellator lightweight best, Eddie Alvarez has seen the dubious decision overturned to a ‘No Contest’.
Tackling Lapicus in the hope of potentially earning a lightweight title clash against dominant champion, Christian Lee, Alvarez saw his clash with the Moldovan called out just over a minute into the opening frame, after landing multiple shots to the back of Lapicus’ head.
Referee, Justin Brown called a pause in the action, with Lapicus falling to his back on the canvas from a seated position. Despite a significant timeout, it was declared that Lapicus was unable to continue, with Brown issuing a red card to Alvarez, resulting in an immediate disqualification loss.
