National Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman asks officials to send Pourakarmika attackers to jail

Mysore/Mysuru: National Safai Karmachari Commission Chairman M. Venkateshan has asked officials to send those who assault or abuse Pourakarmikas to jail. He was speaking at a meeting  with officials and Pourakarmika leaders at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here yesterday. Pointing out that the problems of Pourakarmikas will be addressed, Venkateshan said that necessary steps will be taken for ensuring job security of Pourakarmikas, payment of  school fee of Pourakarmika children, housing and free health services for Pourakarmikas and such other welfare measures. Stating that he will be meeting CM B.S. Yediyurappa in a couple of days to discuss Pourakarmika issues, he said that officials must ensure that Pourakarmikas are not deprived of any Government benefits.

Raju Safai Karmacharis’ State meet held in Vijayawada Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission Chairperson Vasireddy Padma on Wednesday said rag-pickers contributed a great deal in cleaning up cities and their surroundings though their services went unrecognised. She was addressing a State-level meeting of safai karmacharis, organised by Dalit Bahujan Resource Centre (DBRC). She said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was concerned about the welfare of every section and reminded that he had increased salaries of the sanitation workers from ₹12,000 to ₹18,000 a month. She said efforts were also on to issue ID cards to the volunteers of gram and ward secretariats.

District Minister holds pre-budget meeting

Mysore/Mysuru: Ahead of next month’s State Budget, District Minister S.T. Somashekar  held a pre-budget meeting with BJP leaders at the party office in Chamarajapuram here on Monday. Addressing the meeting, Somashekar said that he has received 15 suggestions so far, which chiefly included formation of a Dasara Development Authority, comprehensive development of the city and district and tourism promotion measures. Pointing out that all the suggestions and inputs received will be discussed with the Chief Minister ahead of the budget, Somashekar said that a preliminary  budget meeting will take place on Feb. 12 at Bengaluru, during which the CM will spell out the proposals sent by the DCs and ZP CEOs of all districts.
