Tuan, 22, and Van, 41, both of no fixed address, at first claimed to be the victims of modern slavery.

Convicted child rapist tried to meet 13-year-old girl for sex just months after release from prison

Schofield A CONVICTED child rapist has been locked up for four years after attempting to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex just seven months after his release from a 12 year prison sentence. Judge Jonathan Rose today agreed with a probation officer and a psychiatrist that Daniel Schofield was a high risk of causing serious harm to children and gave him an 11 year extended sentence. Schofield, 33, of Lynfield Drive, Heaton, Bradford, was jailed on a video link to HMP Leeds after being recalled to prison until June, 2026. The new sentence is made up of a four-year custodial term with a seven-year extended licence period.

Burglar raided high-value jewellery, cash and a car in three house break-ins

Scott A persistent burglar has been jailed for more than six years after raiding high-value jewellery, cash and a car in three house break-ins. Shane Scott targeted homes in Halifax and Blackpool and assaulted the two police officers who went to arrest him, Bradford Crown Court heard today. Scott, 44, of Mixenden Court, Mixenden, Halifax, was sentenced on a video link to Leeds Prison where he was remanded in custody. Prosecutor Richard Holland said Scott’s 17 previous convictions for 54 offences included house burglary, robbery and drugs offences. On May 16 last year, he burgled an occupied house in Athol Green, Ovenden, Halifax, overnight, stealing property including a purse, bank cards, cash, a camera and the householder’s Kia Sportage car.

Bradford man jailed after trying to bite police officer

A CONVICTED burglar has been jailed for trying to bite a police officer after demanding a mask when he was under arrest in a patrol car. Anthony Murgatroyd had been apprehended and handcuffed on suspicion of attacking his former partner, Bradford Crown Court heard. When the police officers were unable to provide him with a mask, he became agitated and had to be removed from the vehicle and then taken to the ground. He was being put into the back of a police van by a number of officers when he went limp and tried to bite the male officer on the arm.

1/1 A DRINK-DRIVER was jailed for eight years and eight months for causing the deaths of a devoted couple by ploughing into their vehicle on the A59 near Skipton. Thomas Finnegan, 29, had also taken cocaine when his Mercedes Vito van smashed into a Nissan Juke being driven by Mark Gregson shortly before 10pm on January 24 last year. Mr Gregson, 52, and his partner Claire Lucas, 43, were pronounced dead at the scene. Finnegan’s girlfriend, Lucille Hammond, who was the front seat passenger in the van, suffered a fractured spine. Finnegan, of Park Lane, North Newington, near Banbury, Oxfordshire, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, one offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while under the influence of drugs and driving with excess alcohol.
