Six children aged one to five year and one woman were killed on Saturday by some unidentified gunmen who attacked Kauru and Lere local government areas in Kaduna State, while several others were said to have sustained injuries and were declared missing.
A government statement claimed the attacks were a reprisal, following the Thursday night attack on Gora Gan in Zango Kataf LGA that claimed seven lives and the burning of 13 houses and two shops in the area.
The statement by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, released on Saturday, was titled ‘Security agencies report reprisal killings in Kauru LGAs following Zangon-Kataf LGA killings… Seven killed in counter killing’.

Seven people have been killed following reprisal attacks on some settlements in Kauru and Lere Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
This was revealed in a statement the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan issued yesterday.
The commissioner said the attack followed the killing of seven people in Gora Gan, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state on Thursday.
Aruwan said the military under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and the police “have informed the Kaduna State Government of counter attacks on some herder settlements in Kauru and Lere local government areas.

Samuel Aruwan ,Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, has said that seven persons were killed in counter-killings in the state at the weekend.
Consequently, Governor El-Rufai, according to him, was worried over renewed killings and counter-killings in Southern Kaduna.
“The military under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) and the police have informed the Kaduna State Government of counter-attacks on some herder settlements in Kauru and Lere local government areas,”Aruwan said.
“According to the operational feedback from the security agencies, the attacks were carried out by aggrieved youths following the killing of seven persons on Thursday night in Gora Gan, Zangon Kataf local government.

This was even as governor, El-Rufai has expressed his worries over renewed killings and counter killings in the area after months of relative peace.

The commissioner of Internal Security and Homes Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement gave the names of the seven herders killed at Ungwan Idi and Kasheku villages in Kauru Local Government as Mustapha Haruna (one year old ) , Ya’u Kada (one year) and Sa’idu Abdullahi (one year),
Others are Zainab Zakari (one year), Sadiya Abdullahi (five years), Aisha Abdullahi (one year) and one unidentified woman burnt beyond recognition.
