» Whatcom County Teen Named 30 Under 30 Changemaker

By Forrest Camire May 11, 2021 5:17 pm Sadie Olsen, a 19-year old Lummi Tribal Member, is co-founder of Whiteswan Environmental and was instrumental in the start up of Whatcom Intergenerational High School, which opens later this year. In addition, Olsen is a member of the Northwest Portland Area Youth Indian Health Board and co-facilitates students and adults for Western Washing University’s Community Engagement Fellows Olsen is among 30 individuals from across the country who are being recognized for affecting positive change in their community and nationwide. Washington state names its first Native American poet laureate A member of the Lummi Nation, Bellingham writer Rena Priest will bring attention to local poetry, climate change and the loss of vital natural resources. by On the first day of National Poetry Month, Bellingham-based Rena Priest is named the new Washington State Poet Laureate. She ll be a statewide ambassador for poetry during a two-year term.
