Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Visva Bharati university Chancellor Biduyt Chakraborty of taking credit for UNESCO declaring Santiniketan as a World Heritage site. Sircar shared a photograph of a plaque installed by Chakraborty, mentioning Modi and Chakraborty as the central university s chancellor and VC. Sircar stated that UNESCO honored Rabindranath Tagore and his legacy, not the university administration. The BJP spokesperson dismissed Sircar s comments. Visva Bharati spokesperson declined to comment. Weeks after the UNESCO honor, Visva-Bharati authorities seek the return of responsibility for a road lined with heritage buildings from the West Bengal government.
