escalation of the war in ukraine, announcing the mobilization of some 300,000 russian reservists and threatening a nuclear attack in clear and disturbing terms. translator: this is not a bluff. the citizens of russia can be sure that the territorial integrity of our homeland, our independence and freedom will be ensured. and those who try to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the prevailing winds can turn in their direction. now global leaders are responding to that, calling that announcement from putin a sign of panic and the administration saying an admission of failure. this as the mayor of kyiv says putin has, quote, launched the process that will bury him. the question, though, today, jim, is how will president biden respond when he speaks in just over an hour in front of a global audience? no question, and how seriously does the world take what is a very public threat from the russian president who has often followed through on threats. our team is
is a monster move again, and they have signaled that they are not done and project nag the interest rates are going to be going significantly higher from here, and the message that the fed is trying to convey is clear. they are serious about trying to get stubbornly high inflation back down, but the moves they are making here have lifted the interest rates to the highest level since 2008, and now the fed was late to this inflation fight. they did not start raising interest rates until earlier this years, and they have been forced to play catchup, and that has forced the interest rates to go rapidly higher, and we have not seen three straight moves of a percentage point and we have not seen anything like that since the modern era, and you have to go back to 1981, and this is not a perfect comparison, because that is before the fed publicly announced the fed moves, and what does it mean? it means the borrowing costs are higher, and interest rates and car loans and mortgage rate
i m brianna keilar with john berman. the russian leader continues to face major turmoil at home. his order sparking angry protests across the country and leading to more than 1,300 arrests. the move is now causing some russians just to leave. there you see emotional f farewells as the mobilization gets under way. russian men leaving their families. in this video traffic is seen building up at border crossings as men try to escape the war. the demand for flights out of moscow is up dramatically. as of now tickets are said to be sold out, google trends leaving russia saw a sharp spike in searches in the last 24 hours. and one way tickets out of moscow to istanbul are started at $2,000. before the announcement from putin, the tickets were about $350. huge increase there. happening now. look at this map. these are the areas where at this point these regions are holding what the u.s. considers sham referendum, you can see the rough lines of them. parts of them voting to leave
