I WRITE in response to DBKK Mayor’s statement dated 31 May 2022, which has raised more questions than answers regarding the status of animal welfare in KK and the current situation regarding the management of the DBKK dog pound and the humane dog population management. She said and quote:
“The Animal Control Division under the City Environmental Health Department, DBKK has received a total of 617 dog harassment complaints in 2021 and a total of 263 complaints have been received this year, as of 23 May 2022. Among the things complained of were stray dogs chasing, barking or biting the public and this situation caused public concern for their safety.”
Many of the dogs perceived as stray are in fact owned dogs, as irresponsible owners allow their dogs to roam the streets. DBKK should be pursuing and investigating these owners and each complaint to assess the nature and severity of the issue as well as to ensure it is valid and substantiated, and that the parties ma
City Hall (DBKK) is conducting a catch-and-control of stray dogs according to the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the Dog Registration and Control By-Laws (Amendment) 2008.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has made it mandatory for veterinary offices statewide to carry out rigorous medical inspections on all types of livestock bound for other districts to prevent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
Efforts to develop a more planned Pekan Matunggong here is being continued despite challenges.
Matunggong Assemblywoman Datuk Julita Majungki alongside the Matunggong Town Development Technical Committee members visited the proposed site provided to government departments and agencies that plan to build offices in the town area.
Pekan Matunggong land spans 267 acres and was gazetted for the purpose of expanding the township for commercial development and the government sector.
Land use in the Matunggong Town area must be approved by the Technical Committee to ensure compliance with the zoning system set by the Town and Regional Planning Department, Kudat Town Board and the Housing and Urban Development Board.
Julita’s visit with committee members found that the area allocated to the Education Department for the proposed new primary school was trespassed by individuals or adjacent villages

HElping Animals Rescue Team (Heart)
THE number of animal cruelty cases in Sabah are quite worrying, but it is due to public awareness of the need to address animal cruelty in the State. Torturing a defenceless animal is not accepted by society.
A dog is known to be man’s best friend but these days people have become quite intolerant of this loyal creature. Cases of dogs being killed, attacked and hurt are rising in Sabah.
This planet belongs to all creatures, not just man. If some people justify that these stray/homeless dogs bite and are a danger to the public, so should be killed, then by this logic, all humans should also be killed because in spite of having intelligence, man kills, rapes and robs his own fellow men!
