The number of American Veterans known to be waiting months for health care grew again today. The department of Veterans Affairs released its First Nationwide audit of v. A. Hospitals and clinics since the scandal erupted. It found that 57,000 veterans have been waiting more than three months for their first appointment. Also, over the past decade, 63,000 vets requested an appointment, and never got one. Wyatt andrews tells us the audit found that there were widespread attempts to cover it all up. Reporter the audit not only reveals the number of wait listed veterans. It takes on the question of, why . In more than threefourths of all v. A. Clinics, 76 , at least one scheduler said supervisors ordered them to falsify the computer records of how long veterans were waiting. This whistleblower at the hines v. A. bart and two unions agreed to extend their old contract for 30 more days. they now have until august 4 to reach an agreement. contract talks resume monday. the agreement was reached last night. kpix 5 reporter cate caugiran has details from san francisco. cate. reporter: this is going to be great news for people who are working today because it means they will have bart to take home this afternoon. it also means the trains behind me will be up and running. we know that negotiations wrapped up around 11:00 last night. they decided to extend the old contract for 30 days as you mentioned while the two sides work on a new one. it was a proposal from the california labor secretary. but keep in mind, the unions say the battle is far from over. they say that bart needs to understand this is a 30-day deadline to get it right. bart bullied us, their riding public and they have mercenaries in here trying to bust up the union. there s not acceptable. reporter: there s nothing to s

[ applause and cheers ] reporter: the berkeley couple rushed to city hall and became the first same-sex couple to be married in the state since the decision. we were surprised that it was this quick but thrilled because really every day that goes by that gays and lesbians can t get married in the state of california is a day too many and it s about time that we re validated and the sooner the better and so proud of the state of california for making it happen immediately. it s amazing and we re grateful. reporter: and we want to take a live look from chopper 5 over castro and market, the epicenter of gays and lesbians in the nation. there s joy in the street once again. this happened so quickly. lightning fast. that ruling came down from the federal judge around 3:00 and by 5:00 the first same-sex couple in california was married. m
