CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – On the strength of a six-run seventh inning, No. 8 Virginia clinched the series against Florida State with a 12-4 win Saturday afternoon. Left fielder James Tibbs III hit his team-high eighth home run of the season in the loss, and Jaime Ferrer extended his hitting streak to 14 games. For the second straight game, FSU scored a run in the first inning, this time on a two-out RBI single from Treyton Rank. Tibbs scored after a double and moved to third on Ferrer’s infield single. The Cavaliers tied it in the bottom of the inning against Ryan Denison when Ethan Anderson singled to score Jake Gelof with two outs. Carson Montgomery (0-2) made his first relief appearance of the season, entering in the second with runners on second and third with one out. With two outs, the Cavaliers tried to score on a ball that got away from Colton Vincent, but Vincent tossed to Montgomery at the plate, who applied the tag before Anthony Stephan could touch the plate.

⚾️: Tibbs Hits Sixth HR of Season

ORLANDO, Florida – James Tibbs III was 3-for-4 Tuesday, with two RBI and his sixth home run of the season, but Florida State fell at UCF 6-3 Wednesday night. Tibbs is hitting .393 and leads FSU in RBI and runs scored. The Knights led 6-0 after the fourth inning, scoring five runs in the fourth against the Seminole bullpen. Ryan Denison allowed one run in his first career start. FSU fought back with two runs in the fifth and Tibbs’ home run in the eighth, but could not plate a run in the ninth to extend the game. TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State (9-3) was all business with 17 hits in a 10-1 midweek win over Bethune-Cookman (8-5) on Tuesday evening at Dick Howser Stadium. Ryan Denison (1-1) earned his first career win, coming in relief for 2.0 innings while James Tibbs III and Cam Smith each hit a home run and accounted for half of the runs on the night. Tibbs III had 15 hits coming into the game and continued his superb offensive performance, drawing two walks to start before doubling into right to score a run then crushing a 2-2 pitch into deep center. Smith had a homer in his first plate appearance for the game’s first run and later hit a single to push his hit count to 14, leading the Seminole freshmen. TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State (7-2) dropped its first home contest of 2023 Friday, falling 10-8 to FGCU (9-1) in front of 4,422 fans at Dick Howser Stadium. James Tibbs III hit a two-run home run for the second straight game, but baserunning and defensive miscues cost the Seminoles. After taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on Tibbs’ 13th career home run, the Eagles scored seven runs over the next two frames, including three unearned on a defensive error in the second. Jackson Baumeister (1-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. FGCU pushed its lead to 8-2 after five innings before the Noles mounted its comeback bid in the sixth. FSU plated five runs against the Eagles’ bullpen and had runners on second and third with no outs, but a double play nabbed the lead runner at the plate and a fly out ended the inning. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State’s (4-0) offense continued to shine Tuesday, recording 15 hits and scoring 11 runs in an 11-2 victory over Jacksonville (1-3) Tuesday night at John Sessions Stadium. Freshman DeAmez Ross tallied his second three-hit game of the season, while Cam Smith and Jordan Carrion both had three hits and three RBI in the evening. The Seminoles are now averaging 11.3 runs per game this season. After the Dolphins took a 2-0 lead on a home run in the bottom of the second inning, FSU responded with five runs in the third and three more in the fourth inning.
