JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida State’s (4-0) offense continued to shine Tuesday, recording 15 hits and scoring 11 runs in an 11-2 victory over Jacksonville (1-3) Tuesday night at John Sessions Stadium. Freshman DeAmez Ross tallied his second three-hit game of the season, while Cam Smith and Jordan Carrion both had three hits and three RBI in the evening.
The Seminoles are now averaging 11.3 runs per game this season. After the Dolphins took a 2-0 lead on a home run in the bottom of the second inning, FSU responded with five runs in the third and three more in the fourth inning. The only hit allowed by FSU freshman Ben Barrett was Chandler Howard’s home run, and he struck out a batter in 2.0 innings in his collegiate debut.
Brennen Oxford (1-0) held Jacksonville off the board after FSU took the lead, working around an error in the third and a double in the fourth to strand runners. Along with Ross’s three-hit day, Smith had a two-run double and solo home run, his second of the year; James Tibbs III tied the game on a two-run double; Carrion had three hits to improve to 10-for-16 on the year; and Jordan Williams had his first two hits of the season, including a two-run home run.
Williams is the fifth different Seminole with a home run this year, and four of them hit the first of their FSU careers. Smith is the only Nole with multiple homers.
Behind Oxford, FSU turned to David Barrett, Andrew Armstrong and Ryan Denison to close out the final four innings. The trio combined to allow just one hit and strike out six Dolphin hitters. FSU’s three hits allowed were a season low.
