Jewish and South Asian families in Farmington are coming together and speaking out after the town’s board of education unanimously decided that the district will not close for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur or Diwali for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Farmington Board of Education unanimously voted Monday to remove two Jewish holidays from its 2023-2024 calendar and rejected calls from town’s the South Asian population to provide a day off for the festival of Diwali a discussion that signals the ever-changing cultural makeup of the community.
