Allegheny County voters chose to repeal a “resign-to-run” rule that required county council members to give up their seat on the 15-member council before they run for another local, state or federal elected position.
If a referendum is approved it would create a seven-member government study commission to analyze Wilkinsburg’s current government and make recommendations, which could include a new home rule charter. Supporters of a proposed merger with Pittsburgh say the commission's creation is meant to delay a potential annexation.
