After rolling through the first half of summer, dipping our toes in the social waters and, for some, even venturing out of town, it feels like the right time to get back in step with local community offerings. Relish the re-emergence of live arts and performances, offered both indoors and outside; especially those tailor-made to entertain the little ones in the family.

Mother’s Day arrives Sunday, May 9, and there is no shortage of ways to spend quality time with family in honor of the occasion.
Local venues in San Francisco and beyond are preparing parklets and newly constructed performance areas to celebrate the season, as vaccination rates spark a slight relaxation of public health guidelines. Examples include District Six, a SOMA StrEat Food Park-curated outdoor food truck and entertainment area in the city, and Out Front at the UC Theatre in Berkeley, which features a street bar, casual outdoor dining and live music from 6:30-10 p.m., Thursdays-Saturdays. The Blue Note Napa is also set for a pivot to outdoor entertainment, with a robust live music series hosted at the Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena starting up later this month; and th
“We still wear masks and practice social distancing inside the church,” said San Francisco resident Carlo Reinares.
People’s temperatures were checked at the door and with the city now in the orange tier. The church could be filled to 50 percent capacity.
Other churches were offering virtual and outdoor services as well. “I been searching for the activities for easter and I went online”
In Walnut Creek, Gemma Wilson and her family came to the Ruth Bancroft garden, where kids took part in a scavenger hunt. The easter bunny was even in attendance.

Union Square Christmas Tree
The 80-foot-tall artificial Christmas tree, located across the glowing jewelbox that is Macy s, illuminates the heart of the city with tens of thousands of lights. The annual lighting ceremony usually happens with a big party on Black Friday, the first big shopping day of the holiday season. Those celebrations in the past featured live performances by stars like John Legend and Aloe Blacc as well as local acts. This year, there were no crowds but the tree still shines for the city.
