and former communications director for jeb bush. what in the heck are these republicans aiming for here? who does it serve to call zelenskyy a welfare queen, beyond it being it mean and cruel, it is stupid. yeah, look, i think that is the key point here stephanie, smear politics, but important to stay up front, all we saw today was a moment that was as moving and as clear cut as a moral, ethical, patriotic, as we have seen in quite a long time in washington. i think just this unity of some of the republican party all of the democratic party this president of ukraine fighting for free people liberty and liberal democracy against an invader, this is a no-brainer. and yet, these people cannot help themselves, the maga wing of the republican party. the reason why they are doing it is because there is a minority within the party, a
they asked me to bring this flag to you, to the u.s. congress, two members of the house of representatives and senators whose decisions can save millions of people. so, let this decision be taken, let this flag stay with you, ladies and gentlemen. this flag is a symbol of our victory, and this war, we stand, we fight and we will win because we are united. ukraine, america and the entire free world. a major conflict less likely so we spend relatively little money and we ve gotten frankly an embarrassing amount of security and return, so i think that s what i mean when i say we should be thankful. but we should also be thankful about the example, when he said that they have won the battle of the mind what he meant is that they have given us reassurance that the good guys can win, that the democracies can hold up, that maybe, just maybe things can turn out the right way. what had to happen in ukraine, what did president zelenskyy have to see for him to decide he could leave the country for the first time since this war started, could come to the united states and get back there very quickly, that he could actually do the strip? i think that s an important question because when you look at the man and you look on comports himself, how he speaks how he dresses, you realize where he wants to be as with his people. in some way he was more
soaked in blood, roaring guns sound every hour. trenches in the donbas changed hands several times a day in a fierce combat and even hand fighting by the ukrainian donbas stands. some of president zelenskyy s powerful and historic address to congress tonight. this is his first trip outside ukraine since the start of the war, at a time when his country fears a new russian offensive may be coming. back with us tonight to discuss, former u.s. ambassador to ukraine, william taylor. he s also the united states institute of peace vice president in europe. mister ambassador, i m so glad you re here with us tonight after the house historic remarks. what s your reaction to what president zelenskyy said? how big is this for the war? i think this is an enormous moment for the war. i think as he said, we could be looking at a turning point next year. we could be looking at the
today announced nearly two billion dollars in new military aid, including patriot missiles. this evening, dressed in military clothing, zelenskyy spoke before a joint meeting of congress, walking into the house chamber to a lengthy standing ovation. and then he thanked the united states for supporting ukraine. ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender. [applause] thank you for both financial packages you have already provided us with and the ones you may be willing to decide on. your money is not charity. it s an investment in the global security and democracy that we handle in the most responsible way. very powerful words. also on this very busy news night, we re awaiting the final report from the january 6th committee.
