Sign Up Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing has pledged to do all he can to help the seed potato sector cope with the loss of European and Northern Irish trade after Brexit. Mr Ewing says he was “extremely disappointed and concerned” about an impending ban on the export of Scottish seed potatoes to Europe and Northern Ireland. This is the mechanism whereby the European Commission decides whether a non-EU country’s regulatory, supervisory and enforcement regime is equivalent to its own.

The Scottish Government has claimed key fishing stocks will reduce as part of the Brexit deal agreed between Boris Johnson and the EU FISHING stocks landed by the Scottish fleet will fall as part of the Brexit deal, analysis carried out by the Scottish Government has suggested. Farmer groups formed to tackle green issues

Farmer groups formed to tackle green issues by Gemma Mackenzie Aberfeldy farmer Martin Kennedy will co-chair the new group. Two new working groups tasked with recommending ways farmers and crofters can reduce their greenhouse gas emissions have been announced by the Scottish Government. The farmer-led groups – one for the dairy sector and the other for the hill, upland and crofting sectors – are in addition to previously announced groups for the arable, beef and pig sectors. The dairy group will be chaired by Jackie McCreery who runs a mixed dairy and arable farm in East Lothian with her husband Simon and is also a director of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland and the Royal Highland Education Trust.
