The seven year wait for finals football for the Central Coast Mariners looks almost certain to end after a sublime Danny De Silva winner earned them a 2-1 victory over the Macarthur Bulls in Campbelltown.
The win, which continues their miraculous transformation this season, was inspired by a sensational performance from Costa Rican international Marco Urena and elevates Alen Stajcic’s side back up to third place on the table with just two games left in the regular season.
“It’s a big stride towards the finals but it’s not mathematically sealed yet at all,” Stajcic said.

Coach Alen Stajcic gives short shrift to the idea that the Mariners have an advantage because their A-League rivals are losing more players to the Socceroos.
Stajcic has dismissed the suggestion the Mariners will have an advantage over A-League heavyweights Melbourne City and Sydney FC, who’ll be losing more players for the upcoming A-League finals.
Thursday’s 2-1 win at Macarthur lifted the Mariners two places to third and their two remaining games are at home to clubs outside the top six.
Melbourne City coach Patrick Kisnorbo says it's "crazy" the A-League finals will be played during an upcoming international break without several star players.

Melbourne City have officially secured their first ever piece of A-League silverware in their 11-year history, securing the Premiers Plate with a dramatic 1-0 win over the Central Coast Mariners.
Craig Nooneâs second-half header was enough for City to see-off their dogged opponents who made the going difficult.
However, it was almost snatched away as referee Shaun Evans awarded a late Central Coast penalty after Aiden OâNeill was seen to have fouled Mark Birighitti.
After VAR intervention, the penalty was rubbed out â sending the Melbourne faithful into delirium.
