In an attempt to slow down the issue of illegal street races on city streets, one Calgary councillor wants to explore creating temporary venues to allow supervised racing.

At 3:50 p.m., meteorologists tracked a storm capable of producing “very strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain.”

That warning ended around 4:50 pm. But the weather service issued another at 5:23 p.m. calling for nickel-sized hail as well as “very strong” wind gusts and heavy rain.
The second thunderstorm warning has also ended, but a watch remained in effect late Friday evening.
Heavy rain has caused localized flooding in many areas around the city, especially on roadways. Calgary police said they received several calls of flash flooding and hazardous conditions on roads, adding they advised against driving.
