With the authorities deciding just last week that the facility will be shut temporarily in coming days and future patients rerouted to other centres, a fresh issue has cropped up with the last few invalids admitted at the jumbo centre the quality of food served to them is so bad that it has to be sent back to the kitchen.

After the much-touted decision to set up jumbo facilities for COVID-19 patients at the peak of the outbreak, and following the unending controversies that have plagued these
centres in the aftermath, a fresh decision has been taken about them, citing a steep drop in cases of coronavirus at the moment.

As India steps up testing to contain the spread of a new mutant strain of coronavirus, first found in the United Kingdom in September, Pune s civic body has put out a video appeal to trace over 100 travellers who returned from the UK before December 22. The Pune Municipal Corporation has also asked the city police to help them. The civic body s appeal comes as India s tally of patients infected with the mutant strain - believed to be significantly more infectious - rose to 20 this morning. I want to appeal to all the residents of Pune who have returned from the UK to please contact us. We ve not been able to trace 109 UK travellers because of incorrect contact details, Rubal Agarwal, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Pune, is heard saying in a nearly one-minute long clip.

PUNE: All the people arriving from the Middle East and European countries at Pune airport will be put in seven-day mandatory institutional quarantine in designated hotels at their own costs, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations’ orders issues on Tuesday stated.
“The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. The directives are issued under the Epidemic Disease Act and the Disaster Management Act 2005,” Rubal Agarwal, additional commissioner of PMC, said. As per the directives, if a passenger is found symptomatic on arrival, s/he will be shifted directly to the Naidu Hospital in Pune for further evaluation and treatment. If the report of the test is found negative, the passenger would be discharged from the institutional quarantine after 5-7 days with the advice of 7-day mandatory home quarantine.
