The Supreme Court on Monday sought the response of the Central government and 15 States and Union Territories in a plea seeking enforcement of the Right to Education Act. (Md Imran Ahmad vs Union of India and ors)
The Supreme Court on Friday emphasised that India is a secular country and asked a public interest litigant why he has taken up the cause of right to education only with respect to minority community and not majority.
Nearly 90% of students in the schools surveyed belong to Dalit or Adivasi communities. About 20% of these schools have only one teacher – a violation of the Right to Education Act.
