Jeffery Keene, 39, died from complications associated with COVID-19 before learning his son had been born.
âDoctors did not want me to tell him our son was born because he (Jeffery) was already anxious,â said wife Nicole Keene. âThey said he was not a good thing to agitate him. And I didnât want to do anything to agitate him.â
Jeffery died Oct. 28 in the University of Kentuckyâs hospital, the same medical center that was simultaneously caring for his wife and newborn son, who was six weeks premature with a brain injury due to a lack of oxygen.
Jeffery, who previously lived in Rutherfordton and where his parents, Jeff and Lynn Keene still reside, began to show signs of contracting the coronavirus in early October.
