Roy E Thompson Sr, 85, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away unexpectedly at Fort Walton Beach Rehab Facility on Feb. 21, 2021. Roy was born on Jan. 27, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama to Thomas Edward Thompson and Mildred Ethel Vester.
He was the second of four children with an older sister, Joyce Israel who proceeded him in death, and two younger brothers, Jack Thompson of Pelham, Alabama and Russell Thompson who also proceeded him in death.
Roy grew up and attended school in Birmingham where he excelled in sports. After high school, Roy worked briefly at the Birmingham News until he joined the Air Force in 1954. He was stationed in Georgia, South Carolina and spent a year in Japan before he left the military in 1957.
