Owatonna Restaurants Feel the Pain

The Owatonna chamber is still running their Take-Out Challenge to promote local eating establishments and give participants a chance to win Chamber Bucks.

Chamber President Brad Meier blogged on the Federal stimulus package for businesses in Tuesday Talk, saying the package, restarts the Paycheck Protection Program, fills the SBA s Emergency Injury Disaster Loan program, and allows for businesses to use more than one program.

Under other circumstances, a group of Owatonna High School seniors would be wearing blue and silver and scoring goals on Dudley Otto Rink at the Four Seasons Centre. They would be getting ready for a trip to Duluth for the annual holiday tournament, while thinking about another run at a Big Nine title.
Instead, Dom Valento, Zach Kubicek, Wyatt Oldefendt, and Casey Johnson are finding the back of the net in Wisconsin and Illinois while wearing the black and orange of the Steele County Blades junior hockey team. The Blades went 4-0 during a showcase event in the Chicago area over the weekend and have won six straight.

The news release says, Established in 1988, the Triple A Award acknowledges a male and female high school senior with a 3.0 or higher GPA who participates in league-sponsored athletic programs and fine arts activities such as theater, speech and music. The MSHSL s Administrative Regions will review the Triple-A nominees from its member schools.The top male and female students is the state, as determined by a points system, will be announced by the MSHSL officials this coming spring.
Highway 14 Expansion Pauses for Winter
Road construction season is closing down on the Highway 14 expansion project between Owatonna and Dodge Center just in time for winter. A news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) states, Progress was made this year, but it may not have been easily evident, if your vantage point was from the current route of Highway 14
I made the trek from Owatonna to Dodge Center or Rochester a few times this fall, though not nearly as many times as when the high school sports season is going full bore. I did see a bridge blossom south of old 14 and plenty of heavy construction vehicles were usually visible.
Pleas to Reopen Go Unanswered
The Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism (OACCT) is among business groups across Minnesota that have plead with the governor to reopen businesses. While a few restrictions will be modified, indications are that restaurants and bars still have indoor dining closures through the holidays.

Let s give our bars/restaurants, fitness facilities, entertainment venues an ability to save their livelihoods. They need it NOW.
