THA health secretary: Forty additional hospital beds coming
Health Secretary Tracy Davidson-Celestine -
Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine has said her division intends to add 40 beds to Tobago’s existing hospital stock to accommodate covid19 patients.
On Friday, the division reported there were 62 active covid19 cases on the island after two additional people tested positive for the virus.
Two patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit of the Scarborough General Hospital.
Addressing the division’s virtual health briefing on Friday, Davidson-Celestine said the addition of the 40 beds, to be housed in a secured facility, will be a temporary measure.

It’s been a tough year for ER doctors and nurses in the Philadelphia region. They’ve come a long way since those first terrible months. Last spring, as bodies piled up in a refrigerated trailer outside Roxborough Memorial Hospital, emergency room nurse Harry Caramanica said the stress caused his hair to fall out. He became withdrawn. He’d wake at night and see the faces of dead patients, the ones he couldn’t save, drifting above his bed.

THE Prime Minister was warded on Friday evening for overnight observation at the West Shore Private Medical Hospital, Cocorite, after complaining of discomfort.
It’s almost two years since Dr Rowley last visited the United States for heart tests, after plaque was earlier found in one of his arteries. Plaque, which contains the fatty substance cholesterol, can build up in blood vessels, narrowing them and thus decreasing blood flow to the heart. This may lead to a heart attack or stroke.

PNM candidate for Roxborough/Delaford, Neil Beckles, is urging the people of Roxborough to release the “historical baggage” they have been toting all their lives.
He was addressing a political meeting at the Roxborough Secondary School on Tuesday night, ahead of the January 25 Tobago House of Assembly election.
The meeting took place hours after the Prime Minister addressed the formal opening of the $98 million Roxborough Hospital on Bloody Bay Road.
Beckles is being challenged by Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) political leader Watson Duke.
The historical baggage he referred to was that People try to portray the PNM as the enemy,” he told supporters.
