for a storm that landed 500 miles away is really astounding. it is. jacksonville got about a foot of rain, and they were pretty overwhelmed. the st. johns river was overwhelmed. a lot of streets flooded, some of that water receded but it came back when the high tide hit the couple hours ago. one reason why it may have been so bad is that the st. johns river is the longest in florida and also one of the few in america that runs from south to north. a lot of water that was from the hurricane s associated as it moved up the state was coming on that river into jacksonville. this is one of the casualties. the browns creek bridge is closed to traffic because engineers believe the supports were structurally compromised by the high, rough waters. 20, 30 miles away is a beach and amelia island. anybody on this side can go that way and anybody on that side can t come this way. you can get out of houses on the
