The 71st WHOP Rotary Radio Auction kicks off Monday night at the War Memorial Building with its normal hours, a crowd in attendance and an open diner.
The theme is “Building the Foundation,” as for the first time a portion of money raised will help establish the Hopkinsville Rotary Club Foundation to benefit local youth. Much of the money will also help local high school graduates attend college through the Rotary Scholars and student loan programs.
Cody Noffsinger is the auction chair and says while you’ll hear or see about the hundreds of items up for auction on the broadcast, the driving force behind the auction is cash donations to the Hour Club and Goat Club.

Elber Lopez Hernandez
Three Westfield Academy and Central School District high school students were named as Scholars of the Month by the Rotary Club of Westfield-Mayville. They were Matthew Schumaker for the month of September, Madeline Lancaster for October, and Elber Lopez Hernandez for November. Though the Westfield-Mayville Rotary Club could not honor these outstanding scholars during an in-person special program, each student received a framed certificate and hearty congratulations.
Matthew Schumaker, a senior, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Carrie Schumaker. In his junior year, this scholar was enrolled in three Jamestown Community College courses, and also an Advanced Placement course. During his senior year, Schumaker enrolled in five JCC courses, plus high school courses. When Schumaker graduates in June, he will have earned 28 college credits and a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Mastery in Science.
