Deals involving women founders or co-founders accounted for a mere 17.1% of the total PE and VC activity tracked in 2020 in Southeast Asia. If Grab is taken out of the equation, the number dips to just 4.7%. Sponsored by Globe Telecom, the webinar was full of actionable insights and suggestions on moving the dial when it came to fundraising by women entrepreneurs.
Lucy Gazmararian is the founder and managing partner of Token Bay Capital, a Hong Kong based early-stage venture fund that invests in digital assets and blockchain companies with a focus on APAC. She’s also a co-chair of the Blockchain Committee of the Fintech Association of Hong Kong, and the founder of Women in Crypto, Hong Kong.
Prior to founding Token Bay Capital, Gazmararian was a senior leader of PwC’s global crypto team where she advised entrepreneurs, startups and financial institutions on their crypto and blockchain projects. She also worked with many of the world’s central banks and other regulatory bodies to help formulate their crypto asset policies and launch proof of concepts.
We start with the much-anticipated deal between Indonesia’s two most valuable startups.
Gojek and
Tokopedia have sought approval from their respective shareholders to seal a merger deal after both companies’ boards gave the green light for the transaction. Once shareholder approval is obtained, the two companies will move to complete the transaction in a matter of weeks.
A deal between super app Gojek, valued at $10.5 billion, and e-commerce unicorn Tokopedia, valued at $7.5 billion, would be by far the largest M&A deal ever to be seen in Indonesia’s tech sector.

CXA Group is looking for buyers for its brokerage businesses in Shanghai and Beijing, as part of a restructure that will see the company shift away from its core operations and cut considerable headcount, according to founder and CEO Rosaline Chow Koo.
