They dont have religion but they do have a growing following. We begin with the reality check for president obama and the Affordable Care act. Its not exactly welcome news. The administration estimated half a Million People would have enrolled by the end of october. Only one 06,000 people signed up, about onefifth of what the white house had expected of those, nearly 80,000 signed up through staterun exchanges. Fewer than 27,000 enrolled through the federal website. Republicans say its the best evidence yet that obamacare is a failure. We begin our coverage with Mike Viqueira at the whitehouse. Mike . Reporter john, the white house, the Administration Spent weeks furiously trying to lower expectations, anticipating this released to and now, we know why. You read the figures only one 06,000 have enrolled thus far. Thats far short of the half a million that was expected was projected in a memo leaked by house republicans. But of that number, only exactly 26,784 have successfully enrolled
And id like to begin by asking you what comes to mind when you think of that word . College. Fraternities. Initiation. Okay. All right. So it didnt take long for some images to pop into your head. And, thank you. And youre like many others who think about some common images as they relate to hazing. And one is young men in college fraternities, beating each other, passing out or even dying tragically from alcohol poisoning because of hazing. Also people think about professional athletes like last years headlines of the rookie Jonathan Martin of the Miami Dolphins and more recently people think sometimes about marching bands with the tragic death of drum major robert champion down at florida a m university. And now more recently over the past month weve heard news of a sexually harassing culture and hazing in the ohio state universitys marching band prompting them to fire the band director. While these images and headlines reflect realities of hazing, they only paint a partial picture.
[inaudible question] could you comment about aviation involved and how is that an what would that look like and how does that change things two [inaudible] there is a general at the federal Aviation Administration that would love the answer to that question because that is something, as im sure you know one of the big issues and hurdles for people is safety. And so there are lots of companies, the defense department, working on technologies to provide the uav and i think its a real question as to how expensive that technology tends to be. And without it there a definite limits for what we will be able to do with this technology because you cant describe how this will relate to other aircraft as it causes damage to buildings or whatever. So safety is a major hurdle. And having looked at this thoroughly and the book tells the story of how they came up with these observations involving a major problem that arose, i think that i am very hesitant to try to protect future because i dont thin
Where it is women that are the most prominent and focusing on i mean, i recall martha grass who is a native american or mother of 11 children in oklahoma. Plays a prominent role in the solidarity day rally, and speaking about, you know, the challenges that she faces as a mom in the middle of the country and that poverty, you know, impacted women and children more than anybody else, right . And so in a lot of ways the campaign highlighted the it was it provided a space for women who did not see themselves as exactly part of the feminist movement which was unfairly or not seen as white and middle class so you see a lot of issues on display that africanamerican and chicano women, native american women with working class and others are able to stress in this space of resurrection city and Hawthorne School here in the capital. How does that jive with your recollection . No, absolutely. I remember, you know, the leader and organizer of poor working plants in chicano, working Rights Organizat
Bullied. I have been bullied. I know what its like. Its not cool. You need to stop. Telling them your personal story or personal story and making them realize its real makes them want to do something about it. I know i talk a lot. Im sorry. The thing that i would say is get youth involved with some kind of Youth Development organization like one of the best in the world 4h. We do a lot you can tell i love 4h very much. We do a lot with bullying prevention. We do a lot with preventing the bad stuff and promoting good stuff. Our biggest motto to make the best bester. Thats what we do. Thats what we live by. Thats my biggest thing. We have mentor programs. It mentors youth into a better living. Those programs are designed for kids in troubled lives, kids that are being bullied. That is what 4h is all about is making the best better. Getting people from the bad feeling part or im not sure if im looking for the right word. The lowest thing up to a great organization, up to a great feeling.
