her to grant me a leave of absence. i also would like to say that from the very, very beginning i have offered this to speaker pelosi. and we just got this statement in from house speaker nancy pelosi. she says she will honor rangel s request for a leave of absence and said, quote, i commend chairman rangel for his decades of leadership on jobs, health care and most significant economic issues of the day. again, all of this stems from allegations that charlie rangel violated eth inspection violated ethics by taking trips to the craribbean allegedly pai for by corporate interests. he said this was arranged. his stach knew he did not. that excuse did not fly. with the ethics investigation focusing even harder on rangel he agreed to essentially step aside as chairman of the house ways and means committee, a very powerful position. dramatic move in terms of the reins of power in congress. another developing story today, captain sully
