Richmond Common Council approves students climate change resolution
RICHMOND, Ind. Mary Jetmore grew to love nature during Cope Environmental Center visits.
On Monday, the Richmond High School freshman and other Youth Climate Action Team members supported a climate resolution before Richmond Common Council. That resolution eventually passed 7-2.
“That instilled a lot of importance of nature into me, and then as I’ve grown older and seen the negative impact of climate change, it really hit me hard, said Jetmore, who is a member of the RHS Green Club, which was started by Hannah Jensen-Sizelove, another Youth Climate Action Team member. I want everyone to be able to experience all the amazing things I’ve seen as a child. So climate change is really important to me.”
RICHMOND, Ind. Wayne County was about 25 years ahead of its time when it began a combined 911 system during the 1990s.
Indiana now requires combined county 911 systems, and Matthew Cain, the director of Wayne County s Emergency Management Agency and Emergency Communications Center, said he s seen contemporaries struggle with the change. Previously, individual agencies would dispatch their own calls. We were ahead of our time, Cain said Monday night during a presentation to Richmond Common Council where he explained more about the county s 911 system and the city-county partnership.
Wayne County and Richmond both contribute money to the 911 system, with the city s share budgeted at $520,882.06 for 2021. Common Council approved the interlocal agreement for that money March 1.
