Email us at mysa@mysa.com.  San Antonio voters are heading to the ballot box on May 1 to vote on the Proposition B, an issue that has been highly contentious for years. And it appears that the nation is watching.  The New York Times said in a March article that union and city leaders in the U.S. are especially watching if San Antonio voters will approve or reject the ballot item, which calls for the repeal of the San Antonio Police Association s collective bargaining abilities, which in turn would weaken the force s power to protect officers accused of misconduct.

The original 60-day window for collective bargaining ends on April 27, and Monday was the last bargaining day in their original schedule. By agreeing to a 15-day extension, the two sides can keep the talks going. The current contract runs through Sept. 30 and has an eight-year evergreen clause.

City and police union still stuck on discipline with one contract negotiation session to go No compromise in sight on reforming appeals process for fired cops; final bargaining session Monday Tags:  SAN ANTONIO – The city and police union continue to butt heads over how much power an arbitrator should have to reinstate fired San Antonio police officers. The city’s goal to reform the appeals process and make it harder for fired cops to get their jobs back has been the biggest and stickiest issue of the ongoing contract negotiation. With just one scheduled negotiation session left on Monday, April 19, the two sides still haven’t found a compromise.
