Trainer Gary Subratie started the new year with a bang at Caymanas Park on Friday, closing back-to-back winners with a repeat victory by CRIMSON in the annual Fan Appreciation Day Trophy.
CRIMSON, with claiming rider Christopher Mamdeen, clocked 1:55.2 at nine furlongs and 25 yards, to win by three and a quarter lengths ahead of 14-1 outsider, COCO CHANEL with jockey Dane Dawkins.
Subratie s even-money favourite, SURE CURLIN - with jockey Robert Halledeen - won the previous event in a driving finish from UNWRITTEN LAW at four furlongs straight, beating three-year-old maiden fillies.

Turning for home with Dane Dawkins peeping between his legs after setting a ridiculous split of 57.0 for five furlongs, followed by a record 1:09.0 for six, MAHOGANY raced home by six lengths ahead of St Leger winner, NIPSTER.
Dawkins logged a double by landing the Sunnyside Stakes for two-year-olds astride Gary Subratie s NUCLEAR NOON.
