Trainer Gary Subratie started the new year with a bang at Caymanas Park on Friday, closing back-to-back winners with a repeat victory by CRIMSON in the annual Fan Appreciation Day Trophy. CRIMSON, with claiming rider Christopher Mamdeen, clocked 1:55.2 at nine furlongs and 25 yards, to win by three and a quarter lengths ahead of 14-1 outsider, COCO CHANEL with jockey Dane Dawkins. Subratie s even-money favourite, SURE CURLIN - with jockey Robert Halledeen - won the previous event in a driving finish from UNWRITTEN LAW at four furlongs straight, beating three-year-old maiden fillies.
