Huntingdon County VFW Theft 10:54 pm
State police in Huntingdon County say a woman has been charged, accused of stealing over $100,000 from a local VFW, where she worked as the general manager, according to a criminal complaint.
Troopers say 41 year old Misty Whitsel, of Rockhill Furnace, faces charges of felony theft and receiving stolen property, according to court documents.
Investigators say in August of 2019, state police were notified by employees of the Blue Juniata VFW post 5754 that Whitsel had been stealing money from the establishment.
Whistel worked as the general manager of the VFW from Nov. 2018 to Sept. 2020.
Authorities say a forensic audit was conducted and investigators learned that Whitsel stole approximately $106,000 from the VFW, either by “skimming” the money from the cash registers or from the Skill machines that were on site.
