Family tragedy triggers Mackay, Rockhampton crime spree

Premium Content Subscriber only A Mackay man intends to go home to NSW to be near his grandparents following his two-month crime spree detailed in court. Mitchell Turnbull’s string of charges were so extensive it took more than 30 minutes to decipher the details when he presented to Mackay Magistrates Court on Thursday. The court heard Turnbull was charged with possessing property suspected of being used in commission of a drug offence in Allenstown, Rockhampton on August 4, 2019. He also had a knife on him, assaulted a police officer and when he was taken to the Rockhampton watch-house he then damaged a blanket, earning himself a charge of wilful damage of police property.

Police find 1kg illicit drug stash in routine traffic stop

Premium Content Subscriber only UPDATE 11.30AM: Illicit drugs allegedly found hidden in a North Mackay man’s car during a routine traffic stop on the Bruce Highway had a street value of up to $180,000, police say. The 27-year-old man was pulled over as part of a road safety operation at St Lawrence on Thursday, April 15, and allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test. Officers then searched his vehicle during which it is alleged more than 1kg of ice was found as well as about 250g of cocaine and cannabis oil. Senior Sergeant Damian Wells described the bust as a “fair dent in the local drug supply”.

Two in hospital after alleged assault at Silly Solly s

Premium Content Subscriber only A man and a teenage boy are in hospital after what appears to be an alleged assault at Silly Solly s in Rockhampton s CBD. The incident reportedly occurred at the East St store about 11.30am on Tuesday. Initial reports suggest a person was allegedly armed with a baseball bat and threatening people outside the store. There were believed to be 15 people involved in the alleged incident, however, this was unconfirmed. A man in his 40s and a teenage boy were assessed by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics. They were transported to Rockhampton Hospital in stable conditions with facial lacerations.

Parent allegedly involved in serious assault at Rocky school

The emergency services call came in around 9.30am to the Berserker Street State School. By the time the police swiftly arrived, both people had left. Two people in custody for allegedly stealing cable from Ergon

Premium Content Subscriber only Two people are in custody after police apprehended them near Park St, Park Avenue on Friday morning. Police received reports of break ins at the Ergon Energy depot around 6am. It was reported two people were stealing cables. Police officers were led on a short chase around the bushes and riverbank near the depot before they apprehended the two persons. A 33-year-old Mount Morgan man and a 34-year-old man are in police custody. Charges are expected to be laid. More Stories
