After the completion of the Enon Exchange Bank building in 1917, the community of Enon was only a fraction of its size compared to the brief economic boom experienced in 1901 because of prospective mining operations. However, in the ensuing years, the bank and church remained key features of a community that enjoyed a strong business foundation brought on by the Bagnell Branch of the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
The community of Enon, near the southeast corner of Moniteau County, came into existence through the entrepreneurial spirit of James McGinnis, who built the first house in the developing community in 1869.
Woven into the background of our communities are the names of certain individuals whose contributions are appreciated and fondly remembered. Jasper Isaac Hunter, born of rather meager beginnings on a historic farm near Enon, is one such person known as a man of unwavering Christian faith, a World War II veteran, farmer and a positive influence in the lives of those with whom he interacted.
