After the completion of the Enon Exchange Bank building in 1917, the community of Enon was only a fraction of its size compared to the brief economic boom experienced in 1901 because of prospective mining operations. However, in the ensuing years, the bank and church remained key features of a community that enjoyed a strong business foundation brought on by the Bagnell Branch of the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
The community of Enon, near the southeast corner of Moniteau County, came into existence through the entrepreneurial spirit of James McGinnis, who built the first house in the developing community in 1869.
There are those in history who are remembered not only because of their profession, but the associations and friendships they maintained. Otto Campbell, a native of the Russellville area can be categorized as such, having earned the distinction as a talented and capable blacksmith who spent much of his life in business with his close friend, John Selix.
