“I’m proud to join with my fellow mayors and happy to see support coming from Senator Cooney to provide our families with access to a guaranteed income,” said Mayor Warren. “We can now move forward quickly on the commitment we made as members of Mayor’s for a Guaranteed Income. I am looking forward to the first public meeting of our Reparations and Universal Basic Income Exploratory Committee next week so we can begin talking about how to make this a reality in Rochester.”
The Reparations and Universal Basic Income Exploratory Committee was tasked by Mayor Warren in April 2021 to explore the implementation of reparations and a universal basic income program for Rochester. The exploratory committee will review existing reparations pilots in other cities across the country to see how similar programs can be developed for Rochester.
US-based Antiguan listed in top 100 for community work
With the Covid-19 pandemic continuing to impact the world, many countries have been finding creative ways to rebuild their economies, health sectors and everyday life.
The Rochester community in New York is just one of the many areas in the US that is focusing on picking up the pieces.
It is because of this resilience, that the RBJ Business Journal which is a part of BridgeTower Media, one of the USA’s leading business-to-business media companies, has identified 100 persons within that community who have already begun to play integral roles in that redevelopment.

Mayor Lovely Warren Unorthodox times led to an unorthodox State of the City address from Mayor Lovely Warren on Thursday, as the mayor replaced a formal speech with a release of a short video and a 48-page booklet titled the “Equity and Recovery Agenda.” The booklet outlined what she saw as her administration’s achievements and plans for the coming year, which included grand visions for disbursing potential tax revenue from legalized marijuana, investments in housing and the arts, as well as a focus on policing alternatives, urban farming, and education, as ways of countering what her administration called “a tale of two cities generations in the making.”
Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative Recent U.S. census data shows a decrease in both Rochester’s child poverty rate and overall poverty rate.
The data, taken over a four and a half year period from the start of 2015 to the end of 2019, shows that the child poverty rate dropped from 51% to just over 47%, meaning nearly 22,000 children living in Rochester are in poverty.
The new data was compiled by the Rochester Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative, the city of Rochester and ACT Rochester.
The results are also the first set of data to reflect the years that RMAPI has been working to reduce poverty in the community. The initiative began in 2015, working with various community organizations on implementing strategies.
