More than 25 years ago, Jill Sobule helped boost the visibility of LGBTQ stories in mainstream pop music with her playful and endearing 1995 folk-rock single I Kissed a Girl.
This weekend, the singer/songwriter will be in New Jersey to lend her voice in support of an organization that works to serve members of the state s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and their allies, the Princeton-based Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice.
“I consider myself an activist, and part of what I do, I believe, is these sorts of things, Sobule said. Members of the public pack the National Mall while marching bands parade, flags billow in the crisp January air and fireworks light up the D.C. sky.
On Wednesday, President-Elect Biden will “solemnly swear” to “faithfully execute the Office of President,” just like 44 other presidents have before him, placing his left hand on his century-old family bible only he’ll be looking out on a sea of green: an empty National Mall.
