Really important to look at how to change the environment for folk in communities that are most impacted which includes making Healthy Foods more available and local retail as well as looking for ways to look at policy and regulation to reduce access to unHealthy Foods including sugary drinks. So, i want to thank you all for bringing this to the attention of the public and thank you for this opportunity for folk to talk about just how bad sugary drinks are for our health because were finding out in the community that folk dont know yet just how bad this is to community health. We are also conducting focus groups currently in community to hear about what Community Folks think with regards to what the science is about what kind of a policy interventions we need to use. Sugar sweetened beverages. So, San Francisco Community Clinics partners see about 38,000 dental patient visits per year and its all in the lowincome and minority patients. All of our centers are located in the neighborhoods that were previously described by my colleagues and really were the people who can tell you on the ground what we see when we look in the mouth. Tooth decay is something that is often called the silent epidemic by the Surgeon General and its really the number one chronic disease in our chill chren in this country. Its 10 times more common than asthma, seventime more common than allergies and the Health Disparities are staggering in lowincome people in this country.
