A Hamilton high school board of trustees is facing WorkSafe charges over the death of a 17-year-old student on a school trip. Lawyer Caitlyn Frost appeared on behalf of Melville High School’s board of trustees in the Hamilton District Court on Wednesday. The board is facing charges relating to Jaden Chhayrann’s death. Jaden was on a class field trip to Waihī Beach on February 21, 2020, when he was caught in a rip while swimming and pulled out to sea, about 12.30pm.

A former Hamilton Junior High School board of trustees chairman, Kieran Martin-McManus, has been jailed for two years and nine months.
A former school board of trustees chairman has been sent to jail after falsely accusing a teacher of having sex with a student. The lie, dubbed “evil” by one of its victims, all but destroyed the teacher’s career until she was fully cleared in court two years later. Kieran Martin-McManus, 33, was jailed for two years and nine months when he appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Thursday, after earlier being found guilty by a jury of wilfully attempting to pervert the course of justice and two charges of forging documents.

Zachary Grant used a fake Facebook account to threaten and blackmail young women into sending him sexual images. “Get naked now or your family dies,” he told one victim. “Do you remember when your nudes went viral?” he asked another. But with another account, under his own name, Grant would “curry favour”, encouraging the women to comply with the anonymous demands and saying he’d help them.

Former All Black Zac Guildford has been named as the man responsible for punching a woman in the face in a 2019 incident.
In January, the 32-year-old fought for permanent name suppression at his sentencing at the Hamilton District Court, which was denied by Judge Robert Spear.
Guildford s lawyer immediately appealed that decision, which was heard at the High Court in Hamilton in February.
In March, Justice Paul Davison QC deemed that the public should know Guildford was behind the assault, which had been described as savage and appalling .
