Summary
Soroti main market, which sits on approximately 2.5 acre piece of land, was awarded to Techno 3 Ltd at Shs27b. Its construction started in 2018 and has a capacity to accommodate more than 2,000 vendors. However, the transition to the new facility hangs in balance due to the unresolved disagreements over the modes of sharing the lock up spaces.

More than 500 vendors in Soroti City stormed the office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) on Monday to protest corruption in the allocation of stalls in the newly constructed market.
Teso fruit growers frustrated as Soroti Fruit Factory fails to meet expectations
The Soroti Fruit Factory in Arapai sub-county, Soroti District was conceived as a government investment promotion initiative, whose main objective is to support value addition to local oranges and mangoes. The federal government, through the Uganda Development Corporation, (UDC) owns 80 per cent shares, while the 20 per cent are owned by the Teso Tropical Fruits Cooperative Union.
Ideally, Teso fruit farmers are meant to supply the big bulk of the fruit requirements. These were meant to be purchased primarily from eastern and northern Uganda. The factory was also meant to improve farmers’ livelihoods and household income through purchase of homegrown Ugandan fruits.
