'The ELEVEN' art project nears goal line with Pete Rozelle unveiling

CANTON – Standing on Fifth Street NW in downtown Canton, artist Tommy Morgan described the inspiration for the football-themed banner mural towering over him from the side of a brick building. A tribute to late NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle, Morgan said during Tuesday s formal unveiling that he set out to capture the joy of the man who is credited with helping to make professional football the most popular sport in America today. Turning around, the Stark County artist gestured at Rozelle and said football teams on each side of the sprawling art piece represent the NFL and AFL before a merger the commissioner negotiated in 1966.

New, existing businesses take advantage of entertainment district

CANTON  The Carpe Diem Coffee Shop intends to offer something a little stronger than coffee in the near future. Owners Patrick and Cathy Wyatt are in the process of obtaining a liquor permit, allowing them to craft a signature drink like the Irish coffee served by Dead Rabbit, a bar in New York City. They re one of four businesses that have applied for the 15 liquor permits created with the city s downtown entertainment district last February.  We don t want to become a full-fledged bar, with people coming in there and handing out all day, but we definitely want to enhance our coffee and anything that has a coffee theme with it, Patrick Wyatt said.
