Who has to quarantine?
The quarantine rules will apply to UK nationals and residents returning to the country from 33 “red list” high-risk destinations, where Covid-19 variants have been detected in large numbers of people.
Passengers will be expected to pay for the cost of their accommodation and will have to stay in their hotel rooms for 10 nights, with security guards to accompany them if they go outside.
The four UK nations have agreed that people arriving from high-risk countries on a “red list” will have to quarantine in hotels, but Scotland plans to introduce a more “comprehensive” approach to “managed quarantine”.

The UK is getting safer every day as almost one in five adults have now had their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, Nadhim Zahawi has said.
The NHS is on track to meet its target of vaccinating the top four priority groups by mid-February through a close focus on the most vulnerable , the vaccines minister told MPs.
More than nine in 10 people over the age of 80 have now had their first dose of the vaccine, as have nine in 10 over-75s and over half of all over-70s.
Yet ministers are yet to pinpoint a start date and few details are available on how the system would operate.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson added to the confusion on Wednesday when he said that details would be announced on Thursday. Downing Street later corrected him and said that the plan would be outlined by Health Secretary Matt Hancock next week.
